May Bank Holiday weekend is upon us & its been snowing! The mountains are still snow capped & look absolutely majestic. Come and sit by our log fires and enjoy a great local pint....

It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.

Westmorland pub of the year, that is...but still a great achievement. March 2016: FINALIST Westmorland pub of the year. We are proud to be listed in the top 4 pubs by the local CAMRA branch, recognising both the quality of our beer and the pleasant surroundings in which to partake.

We have SIX local real ales & a new Wyld Wood organic cider being served in the Badger Bar at the moment. Of course we have our very own "Badger Bar Beer" alongside Black Sheep, Red Bull Terrier, Headmaster, Corby Amber & Goodhews Stout! Once they're gone, they're gone! Worry not, they will be replaced by yet more delicious local brews.... we have an ever changing variety for real Ale fans......

Open as normal after the flood

We are open as normal now, nothing flooded here. We were for a while officially a Lakeside hotel. Amazing amount of water but we escaped lightly.
Mulled wine and log fires
