It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.
Easter 2026

Easter's nearly here. Someone please tell the weather! The daffodils are abundant, the bluebells are on the way, but look upwards and there is a dusting of snow on the fells. Go for a bracing stroll then warm up in front of the fire at the Badger Bar. Badger news.... 4 seen on one night last week. They are coming out between about 9-11pm.

| The Bar will be closed for lunch. Open from 4pm as normal. This is so that staff can attend a memorial service for Head Chef Lenny who died in a car accident.

Badger activity in the Hotel grounds is still fairly quite as new cubs are being born but we have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse some nights from around 8.30pm-10pm
January Opening Hours

Throughout January the Hotel & Bar will be open as normal from Wednesdays at noon until Sundays at 4pm (closed Sunday evenings, & all day/evening Mondays & Tuesdays).
New Year 2025/26

Happy Christmas to all our guests and customers. We are open every day as usual now. Bookings for tables up to 8.30pm on December 31st are being taken, just send us an email, or call.
