From opulent superior 4-poster suites to cosy singles, we have the room for you. Families are welcome, as are pets, who are accommodated in rooms in the cottage in the grounds, each with their own outside entrance.
A very delicious Cumberland breakfast is of course included, for all (human) guests.



Superking double & single bed
In Victorian times Theodore Fry, of Fry’s chocolate fame, lived here, and clearly designed this room to impress guests. It is truly HUGE, with a massive bay window, giving panoramic views of classic Lake District scenery. Relax in the sumptuous seating and watch the world go by! The bathroom is brand new with a deep bath and separate shower. Stroll downstairs to our historic bar or go for a short walk along the lake shore, just two minutes away.

Double & 2 single beds
In the oldest part of the building, the Rothay is an atmospheric room with a four-poster bed, easy chairs and big TV. The high ceilings add to the spacious feeling. Poet Wordsworth designed this room and even sat in it to pose for a painting.The room has its own outside door onto a small patio built into the rockface. We love the brand new ensuite with its big shower.There are two extra beds in the room, making this a good family room as well.
Superking double & 2 single beds
A very large country-cottage style room. There is plenty of comfy seating and it has a quiet and cosy atmosphere. This spacious room is in the delightful cottage in the woods right next to the hotel, and it now has a brand new en-suite with a large shower. Dogs are allowed in this room. Please note access from outside is via a slate stairway with which can be slippery and is not good for anyone with mobility problems. Some of the steps are quite high.
King 4 poster double & single bed
An atmospheric room with a four poster bed and single bed, large TV and comfortable seating. There is a feature wall with William Morris wallpaper and charming old windows giving some woodland views. This is quite a large room and has an ensuite with bath with shower over it. The room is named after William Wordsworth’s daughter, Dora. The poet bought the plot of land over which this room looks, to build a house for her.
Superking double
A standard double room with all the comforts you would expect from us, including a superking bed and a great new ensuite with large shower.
Double & single bed
A cosy double room with Victorian style bedstead, and doors opening onto secluded woodland. With a single bed in a small connecting area, this is ideal a for a small family or as a twin. There is a delightful new bathroom with a bath and shower over.
Superking double or twin
A standard double with a king-size bed and a spacious light and airy bathroom with bath and shower over. Have a relaxing soak after a day walking the fells, then amble downstairs for a hearty bar meal and pint or three of really good local real ale. This can also be a twin room.
Single
A standard double room. The small ensuite has a bath with shower over. As in all rooms your booking includes en-suite facilities, toiletries, TV, central heating, hospitality tray. Good home-cooked food is served in the bar each evening, and we sell a fine selection of well-kept real ales as well. And a truly unique feature - we have a colony of badgers in the grounds, and we feed them every evening. Come and watch, it is quite a sight: you can get really close. This room can also be booked as a single.
Superking double or twin
A standard double or twin room in the Cottage in the woods, in the hotel grounds. This is a peaceful and secluded room with its own external entrance, ideal for dog owners. This room has a small ensuite with a shower. The badger feeding area is very close to this room, so it is easy to nip out and try to spot them in the evening, though they will be elusive if there are any dogs around (or noisy children!) The woods surrounding the cottage are full of bluebells and daffodils in spring.
Double
A double room on the ground floor of the former coach-house, in the hotel grounds. As with all our rooms, there is plenty of private parking as well. There is a brand new en-suite shower room. With its own external entrance, this bedroom is ideal for dog owners. This room can be combined with the Heron single room to create a private suite. The room is named after the otters that live in the lake opposite, whilst badgers and deer wander in the hotel grounds.
Double
A cosy ground floor room with a double bed and en-suite shower room. It is named after Loughrigg Fell which lies just across the little river. Don’t miss out on the famous Loughrigg terrace walk, which starts right at our doorstep and gives stunning lake and mountain views.
Superking double
This is a peaceful and secluded room in a country cottage style, with its own external entrance in the cottage in the hotel grounds. It has a good sized newly refurbished ensuite with a large shower. There are delightful woodland views from this room, and in spring the daffodils are abundant all around. Please note this room is accessed from outside via a slate stairway which can be slippery and is not ideal for anyone with mobility problems. Dogs are allowed.
Single
This cosy single room is in the Cottage in the woods in the hotel grounds. It is on the ground floor and has a small ensuite. Dogs are allowed. A familiar sight swooping over the river and lake opposite is our friend the heron.
