It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.

A big thanks to Jane for playing her fiddle in the Badger Bar this weekend after the latest leg of her epic charity climb and swim. We wish Jane good luck as she continues to climb the height of Everest and swim over 70 lakeland tarns, raising money for "Jessie's Fund". Good luck Jane!

Langdale is hosting its annual Gala at Chapel Stile this coming weekend. Watch traditional Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling or, if you're brave enough, even take part? There will also be a pet show, fancy dress for the little ones, craft stalls, music and much more. Afterwards, come to the Badger Bar for a refreshing cool drink and local ice-cream or, depending on the weather, enjoy a hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Blue skies and warm sunshine: its our favourite time of year here. The trees are fabulously green, and the footpaths heading off in all directions from our doorstep lead you to so many delightful and famous Lake District sights. The long light evenings are an added bonus, as you sit in our beer garden with a cool pint or bowl of chips, and watch the swifts darting around. Stop off for a short break or light lunch, and see why we love it so much!

Good luck to all the swimmers jumping into Windermere this weekend, 12th June. Its a fabulous event in amazing scenery. The water's not exactly tropical though, so move fast to avoid emerging blue and shivering. Call in here to the famous Badger bar for our lovely warming homemade soup or hearty pub grub afterwards. Then go for another dip in Rydal water, across the road. Its warmer than Windermere (!) and popular with wild swimmers.

The bluebells are out, the lambs are frolicking, and its just lovely here in the lush Lake District. Come and sit in the sun in our big beer garden. We sell the best real ales in the area, and now also tubs of ice cream.

Good luck to all those tackling this scenic route right round the lake. Less energetic visitors are welcome to relax in our beer garden or cosy bar.

The annual Fred Whitton bike round round the lakes brought nearly 2000 cyclists past our door today, twice. Firstly, fresh off the start line at Grasmere, and then not so fresh about 9 hours later, just before they finished back in Grasmere having ridden 120+ miles and crossed every big mountain pass in the Lake District. A few wise ones stayed here for two nights, enjoying the hearty pub grub after an epic ride. Well done to all who took part.

Spring has sprung, and its gorgeous up here. Our beer garden is busy and the birds are chirping. We love it!
