It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.
Re-open 4th July
Posted: June 24th, 2020
Have you ever had to wait so long for a pint? On Saturday 4th July we hope to welcome you back. We are doing all we can to keep within covid19 best practice, and running a pub with social distancing will be interesting. On the 4th daytime we will be serving drinks only. Meals will be served in the evening, reservations strongly advised. Then food and drink as normal from Sunday, though not a Sunday Roast on the 5th.
B&B rooms are available from 4th July. You can book rooms online now. We have altered out cancellation policy so that all new bookings are fully refundable as long as you let us know more than 7 days in advance.
See you soon!

We plan to open our rooms for B&B as well from the 4th, though there has been no government advice (..what a useless bunch...). Please keep watching the news and checking our website for updates, but fingers crossed we will be open very soon. Re-opening?

It looks likely that the Badger Bar and Restaurant will re-open on 4th July. The hotel may not open then, but should be open soon after, we hope. This all of course depends on government advice. It is even possible the beer garden here may open later in June. Whenever we open, it will be great to have customers back again.

The hotel and Badger Bar are now closed until further notice. Anyone with a room booking is welcome to re-book with us when we re-open. We will keep your deposit safe and this can be used as a credit for a new booking. Sorry, we cannot issue refunds because this would threaten our business survival, now that we have no income at all. Thankyou for your understanding and we hope to see you all in more normal times fairly soon....
