News
It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.

LAKE DISTRICT is TIER 2
We are pleased to re-open and would love to welcome you back for a bit of much needed seasonal cheer. As well as food and drink you can stay for B&B. Book in confidence - if we have to shut at short notice we will happily refund you. You can book B&B rooms for Christmas and New Year at the Badger Bar on our website, and further details will follow shortly. All customers must have a substantial meal and you cannot just buy drinks. A pint and a pack of crisps does not count, sorry ;) We will definitely be open at lunchtime and in the evening, with bookings recommended. To all our friends in Tier 3 areas, sorry not to see you, come and visit next year.

CLOSED from 4th November

Here we go again...
We are closed from 10am Wednesday 4th November for at least 4 weeks. If you have booked a room directly with us within this period, please email us and we will be happy to either offer a refund or defer any deposit paid for a future visit. Any Booking.com bookings, please cancel via them, we cannot do this for you. If you have booked to dine with us on the 4th or after, we are sorry but we cannot now stay open for you.
During lockdown we may not be able to answer the phone. Please email us for a quicker response.
If the government had any competence, they would have had a two week lockdown in October, but because they are the most useless bunch in a very long time, they ignored advice, and we now have to shut for much longer, and more people will die. Thanks guys!

COVID TIER ONE
Posted: October 13th, 2020
13th October. TIER ONE.
Cumbria and the Lake District is in the lowest category, so you can still visit. We have strict systems to keep you safe.
Tables are spaced out and separated by barriers and there is table service only now, which is an interesting idea in a pub! We are making it work, even if it does slow everything down. Thanks for your patience. Because of the extra demands on our staff, answering the phone is sometimes not possible. PLEASE EMAIL any enquiries if possible. You will get a quicker response!
Room bookings are busier than normal, so please book using our website to get the room you would like. Table reservations are advised in the evening and for weekend lunches, because we now only have limited space. Please send us an email with your table request for lunch (choose 12, 12.30, 1pm or 2pm) or evening meal (5.30pm, 6.30pm or 7.30pm). With the exception of the 6.30pm sitting which is in our "no pets" dining room, dogs are more than welcome at other times but please let us know so that we can allocate a table in the bar area. info@theglenrothay.co.uk

Re-opening?
Posted: June 8th, 2020
It looks likely that the Badger Bar and Restaurant will re-open on 4th July. The hotel may not open then, but should be open soon after, we hope. This all of course depends on government advice. It is even possible the beer garden here may open later in June. Whenever we open, it will be great to have customers back again.
