It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.

The bluebells are out, the lambs are skipping in the fields and the sun is shining. It is just lovely in the Lakes now, and where better than sitting in our delightful beer garden with a pint listening to the chirping birds?

Beautiful Bluebells

The woodland floor is now carpeted in bluebells, which is such a pretty sight. The lambs are skipping in the fields and the weather is lovely and sunny. Its a joy to be alive! SUNDAY EVENING 24th April. We are CLOSED from 5pm until 12 noon on Monday 25th.
Spring in the Lakes

We are closed from 5pm on Tuesday, just for that evening, to give our overworked staff some much needed time off. Open as normal from 12 noon on Wednesday.

| New Year’s Eve 31st: Bar open 12noon – Midnight. No entry charge. Food 6-7.30pm Walk-ins and residents only, nearly full. Sunday 1st January 2021: Bar open 12pm–10pm. Food 12-2.30pm (sorry, no roasts today), 5.30-7.30pm Monday 2nd January: Bar open 12pm–5pm. Food 12-2.30pm We are then closed from 5pm Monday to 12noon on Friday 7th
