It’s a constant challenge keeping on top of maintaining this fine old gem of a building. 400 years of Lakeland weather takes its toll! Most of our roof has now been re-slated, putting paid to the days of dashing round with buckets in every downpour, to catch the drips. We are always looking to upgrade the rooms and public areas, whilst keeping the character of the place intact. William Wordsworth, once our neighbour, would surely still recognise the historic interiors, whilst current visitors love the fine beers, fine food and fabulous staff.

The weather is warm, the trees are lush and green, the woodlands are carpeted with flowers, and the lambs are frolicking in the meadows. In short - its beautiful. And even better, on weekdays it is not overrun with tourists. We have a bit of a lull before the next school holidays, so have a look at our room prices on the website and grab a last minute bargain. Some rooms are almost half price! We hope to see you soon.

Our favourite month, when the Lakes is full of life and colour, with the promise of a glorious summer to come. The weather might not be perfect just yet, but the lush greenery, bluebell filled woodland and skipping lambs make up for it. Call in here for refreshing homemade food and the best local ales. We take table reservations but hold back most of our tables for walk-ins, so please do just call in, though perhaps don't turn up right at the end of food service or you may be disappointed.

So we've done Christmas. What we really need now is more excessive consumption. And who are we to say no? We are open daily, and with the weather being a typical Lakes washout, why not warm yourselves up in front of our cosy real fires? New Year's eve food is served 5.30 to 8pm, some reservations still available. Free entry on the 31st, just come and have a tipple and welcome in the New Year.
