BREAKING NEWS....

Bertie the Badger goes missing. After the staff Christmas party at a pub in Ambleside on 8th December, someone decided it would be a good idea to walk off with Bertie Badger. Whilst Bertie has been known to go on little adventures, this is a shock to us. This is not a stunt, and we are saddened that he has been stolen. We have notified the police, and they have some CCTV footage. Bertie is a much loved character in our pub and we all really want him back. If anyone knows of his whereabouts, please let us know, or just return him to the Glen Rothay hotel porch here, which is always open, day or night. This is almost like a loss in the family, we just want him returned. We won't ask any questions, just bring him back!

A real Lake District gem - a great value country B&B on one side and an historic 400 year old inn on the other.

BADGER FEEDING EVERY EVENING - COME AND WATCH

The best walks in the Lake District start right from our doorstep, or just relax in this famous old building and enjoy the good food, real ales and open fires. Our staff are friendly and helpful and play a big part in making the Glen Rothay a really unique place to stay - just have a look at our guestbook, full of comments from guests who return again and again.

Open for food, drinks and a warm welcome

  • Double, twin and family rooms
  • Children welcome
  • Dog friendly
  • Plenty of parking
  • WiFi
  • 2 minute walk to the lake

Ambleside and Grasmere are close by, and there are glorious views all around. It is not surprising that William Wordsworth chose to live most of his life at Rydal Mount, just behind us on the fellside. And every evening you can see the badgers being fed in our grounds. Where else can you get all that?

BOOK A TABLE

We are open for food 12noon-2.30pm and 5.30pm-7.30pm each day, and usually a little longer at weekends.

Please note we are now closed until 24th December. Christmas dinner bookings on the 25th are still available, just send us an email.

Apologies, we are having some technical difficulties with bookings. If you cannot make an online booking, please send an email with your request to:

info@theglenrothay.co.uk

If you want to be sure of a table, bookings are taken just for the start of each service, at 12 or 12.30 for lunch, 5.30pm, 6pm or 7.30pm in the evening.

Groups of 7 or more, please give us a ring or send an email.

Please note the office is not usually manned after 5pm so we cannot always read emails or answer calls.
